Here are some facts about Starbucks that you may not know. The goal of Starbucks is to become a third major gathering place for people other than work or home. They have been successfully doing so with an annual growth of 25% since 1993. Currently, they have over 15,000 stores and will continue to grow. Over the last 30 years the logo has changed 3 times while keeping the original Starbucks theme. The original logo, conceived in 1971, was fashioned after a 15th century Norse woodcut, the image of a mythical two-tailed mermaid siren. The logo was not intended to offend people but was meant to represent irresistible quality. It was changed in 1987 to a more similar version of what is is today. The third version was created in 1992 and show more of a close image of the mermaid and her navel is no longer visible.
Starbucks originated from Seattle in the 1971 when three friends, Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker, opened a small shop and began selling fresh-roasted coffee. The three collected $8000 in cash and loans as start-up capital. In fact, Starbucks in now in 42 different countries and the annual revenue exceeds $7.5 billion dollars.
