If you haven’t poured the concrete yet, you’ll want to look into dry-shake color & hardeners. This is basically a powered pigment that ads color to the concrete. This method will color the top of the concrete 1/8 inch or more. They have really any shade you want to make so the possibilities are endless with colorizing the surface. This type of stain actually helps makes the concrete denser which will make the color last longer. If you have the concrete layed already you need to use a different process to achieve a concrete stain.

The stains with the richest color work chemically with the concrete. The stain reacts with carbon dioxide in the air and becomes harder. Their is a another type of stain that fills particles into open pores in the concrete. This method works great when staining concrete. The stain is usually brushed onto the surface and easily soaks into the concrete matrix. Do not used paint or film formers. These products only stick to the surface and only lay on top of the concrete. This reduced the life of the product and they are not stains.
