Plastic is commercially a very viable product. It’s use in household items, groceries, pipes, vacuum pumps, cars and factories cannot be overstated. This makes one think of the origin of plastic and the substances that create this artificial gem.

Plastic is one of the great gifts of organic chemistry. It is made in the pattern of pasteurization as the substances are heated and then cooled to create the synthetic translucent article. It is actually a synthesis of elements and is referred to chemically as a polymer.

Just like many natural things, Oxygen, Carbon and Hydrogen combine to make plastic. Their palpable mate is a range of substance from petrochemicals to oil to rubber to silicone, even vinyl.

When fuels are extracted from petrochemicals, there are additional extracts too. These may be processed to create plastic resins, the origin of plastic. Technically, many monomers unite to form the ‘polymer’ and so there is an attachment of different atoms. This leads to the flexibility and invincible nature of plastics. Polymer atoms have a tendency to create long chains.

It came into existence along with many accidental inventions. When Charles Goodyear mixed a substance with rubber and left it in lather water, he found to his surprise that it has hardened in course of time. Unknowingly, he had vulcanized rubber. The same happened to the person who cut the latex bark and founds a gluey thing seeping out. That was rubber.

So the plant cells, once they were discovered, gave rise to cellulose and many organic compounds began to be formed out of it. Cellulose acetate is one such example, a very popular form of plastic. Alexandar Parkes accidentally mixed it with camphor and alcohol and the plastic was formed. The flexible nature of plastic allowed many experiments and it was synthesized with many items to create different successes. Most of them were rank successful, and have stood the test of time.

Vinyl, oil, silicone are the other sources of plastic. They just have to be annealed and cooled to create the extensive polymer. The process is called thermosetting and heat plays a big part.

Lightning is formed due to a string of occurrences in the sky. There is a lot of curiosity among us to know why and how is lightning formed. Also, there is an ongoing argument over its formation. Lighting occurs when electric charge is formed in the clouds. There are many theories that suggest how lightning is formed; the most accepted one is polarization mechanism.

There are instances like intense forest fires, volcanic eruptions and surface nuclear explosions when lightning can be observed apart from thunderstorms. Positive and negative charges are generated during thunderstorms and when these separate, energy is released in the form of lightning. The process starts with the development of ice in the cloud.

In thunderstorms, these ice particles crash into one another and this clash creates the electric charge in the cloud. When this electric charge intensifies, electrons are pushed farther down on earth. This half portion of the cloud has a negative charge and the surface of the earth carries a positive charge, which is very strong. This situation when electric charge is formed between earth and the cloud leads to the formation of lightning.

Lightning travels via a path that is curved, which is why it never appears to be straight. The pathway has bends because dust particles in the air breaks down the air. Lightning can pass after ionization of air between the earth and the cloud. When the lightning neutralizes the earth, air and the cloud, it will not hit again.

Lightning can be highly dangerous sometimes. If a lightning is formed in the top of the thunderstorm, it carries the positive charge from there to the ground, which has negative charge. This is highly dangerous as it might travel 5 to 10 miles ahead of the stormy area, which people might consider safe. This kind of positive lightning transfers great electricity charge to the ground for a longer period of time. In such cases, there is a possibility of forest fires as well. Aircrafts are also at the risk of being damaged by positive lightning. Lightning might just look like a streak in the sky but it has much more to it.

Hurricanes are absolutely destructive tropical storms that are formed over the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. These storms are also known by other names in different locations across the stratum; like in China they are known as ‘typhoons’. Hurricanes are formed due to the humid, warm air that prevails over the warm ocean close to the equator. This hot air is like a fuel that pushes it towards the storm.

How are hurricanes formed is a topic of incessant debates and logical explanations. When warm air moves up, a low pressure area forms below it and eventually air from the surrounding high-pressure areas fill into that area. The air that fills in also turns moist and warm and rises up. This process continues with new air again filling the space left by the air rising up. Then the moist air that rises up cools off and the water in the air helps clouds to form.

Then clouds start spinning due to the wind accompanied by the surface water and the ocean’s heat. This continuous spinning results in the storm and an eye is formed at the center of it. This eye has a lower air pressure and air from the higher-pressure area pushes inside into the eye. It starts speeding up and when it reaches 74 mph, the hurricane is formed.

Rotation of earth on its axis determines the spin of the storm. Storms spin clockwise and anticlockwise depending on its origin, which is either north or south of the equator. When they rush towards land, they fade away as soon as they hit the ground. This happens because they lack in the energy supplied by the warm waters. But as the hurricane moves inward into the land, wind and heavy rainfall destroys the areas immensely. This span of time when it hits the land had caused great losses to mankind and nature.

No doubt, hurricanes have devastating effect on earth. However there are satellites built by NASA that help weather forecasters warn people about such devastating storms. Usually during summer time and early autumn, scientists keep strong vigilance to track any such developing hurricane. This helps save life, as they are carefully transported to safer areas.

Volcanoes are formed when their are cracks in the earth’s plates. The cracks up large areas in the earth where hot molten rock called lava can flow out of. One of the most popluar places on earth that this happends is the Pacific Ring of Fire. 68% of all the Earth’s volcanoes are in the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Getting back to how do volcanoes form, the flowing lava builds layers onto itself and cools in the earths atmosphere. This is a long and slow process as the layers harden and build onto each other. If two plates collide and one plate is forced beneath the other, the enormous friction turns the first plate into hot molten rock and it rises up.

Hotspots are another way volcanoes form. A hotspot is basically a spot in the middle of one of the Earth’s plates and it does not move. The hot lava spews from the earth to the surface to form a volcano.

This is causes by a large amount of magma below the Earth’s surface. Once the magma is releaved through the volcano, the volcano can become extinct. Any volcano that have been inactive for more than 10,000 years is considered extinct.

Their are three main types of volcanes: shield volcano, composite volcano and caldera volcano. Shield volcanoes have a flat dome-like shape created by layers of lava flowing over the surface and cooling down. Composite volcano’s are alternating layers of rocks and lava. Caldera volcano’s form when huge amounts of lava spews out of sub-surface magma chambers, and that is how volcanoes are formed.

Hydrogen has the most quantities of all the elements and makes up at least 75% of normal matter by mass and 90% by number of atoms. By mixing strong acids with metals, Hydrogen was produced and formally described by Paracelsus, who was also unaware that this is a flammable gaseous element. It was only rediscovered and reproduced by Robert Boyle through the blending of iron and acids that resulted in the production of Hydrogen gas.

The first use of Hydrogen was for lime lights which are previously used for theatres and music halls. When James Dewar liquefied Hydrogen, he used it for his new invention which was the vacuum flask. Hydrogen was later used by Henri Giffard for his hydrogen-lifted airship that was called Zeppelins by the German count Ferdinand von Zeppelin.

Today, Hydrogen is commonly used in large petroleum and chemical industries. It is used in a wide variety of applications. Other uses of this element are also for production of new elements such as ammonia, methanol and hydrochloric acid. Others are for commercial uses like automotive, power generation and telecommunications.

Since Hydrogen is a flammable element, it is now used for weapons development such as the most dangerous Hydrogen bomb and other high tech weapons produced.

To date, Hydrogen is the number one fuel that is used for most vehicles and will be used continually in the future. It can also replace natural gas for heating and cooling homes and waters used at home.

The advantages of using Hydrogen for automotive particularly for fuel is, that it is a very clean fuel and its byproducts are only heat and water. On the other hand, it is also feasible to air pollution and the production of this chemical, and its storage is not cost efficient and requires a lot of funds to store it. Many automotive companies are researching plans to build a hydrogen generator for cars.

How is oil made? Planktons which are the remains of dead plants and animals are buried deeper under the earth as time goes by and eventually turns into oil and gas due to heat and pressure. From there it reaches the sea beds and starts to form with the layers of sedimentary rocks. As the layers form through the years, organic material forms and turns into petroleum that contains rock. Petroleum becomes oil only if there are enough amounts of heat and pressure. This is the reason why oil is also called “mature” petroleum because this is where source rocks that are heated with enough amount before it turns to oil.

Where is oil found? The source rock where petroleum possibly exists is called a play. This is a group of earthly grounds that may contain a large probability of oil or gas underneath. These are the places where oil can be found. There are specific tools and gadgets used in finding oil underneath a play. Some people use seismic surveys and geographical analysis to make sure that oil is produced in a certain area or ground.

How does oil work? The oil’s main purpose is for lubrication. It is used mostly in machines that are made for different purposes like car engines and production instruments used in factories. Without oil, the parts that need lubrication will easily wear out due to friction. For the oil to lubricate an engine part for example, it should be applied enough, not too much and yet not too little, but just right. The oil’s contents can help in the proper functioning of an engine and prolong its durability, plus improving its operation by reducing noise and energy consumption. Other functions of oil is protection of the engine part from corrosion and rusting by preventing harmful chemicals and elements from getting on the part that may cause unnecessary chemical reaction.

Based on the theories as to how oil was formed, it can actually be rejuvenated temporarily but not renewable, in a sense that if a play has dried out and there are still huge pockets that exists, a deeper drilling is only required to be able to create another production of oil and therefore producing another set of oil from the same ground, which is different from the oil that was first produced from the same play.

Iron is a common metal that is now widely used and can be seen practically anywhere. Basically, iron is combined with other elements and is mainly used for construction like building supports, ships and warships and other transportations like cars, planes and buses. In today’s generation, even your everyday things that are used are also made of iron like the cellular phones, computers, television and most electric and electronic appliances. For modern interior decors, iron is also used for furniture in houses and commercial and business establishments.

Although iron is used in most things nowadays, it still comes in different forms and combinations, depending on where it would be used. Wrought iron, for example, contains additives, has low corrosion rate and is more twistable and ideal for window screens and patio furniture.

Alloyed steel, which is a combination of iron and steel, can withstand various temperature and pressure which makes it right for use on building frameworks, chassis or carrier ships and planes.

Cast iron is most commonly used in most kitchens like in the forms of skillets, trays and cooking pans and it has been in use from generation to generation.

As iron is also used in the invention of medical equipments, it is used also for medicinal purposes when combined with iron gluconate, is used as a dietary supplement for people with iron deficiency. The use of supplemental iron is used also animal feeds and other insecticides to protect plants and gardens from pests.

If you realize the uses of iron, there is more to see and discover how useful this element could be, especially when combined with other materials or elements. It goes along with today’s modern technology and will stay until the next centuries to come, whatever the climate would be anywhere in the world.

A tornado is a violent cloud that goes in a circular manner as it touches the ground, as it collects dust, debris and other earthly objects that it can carry.

As the tornado starts to form a funnel-shaped wall cloud that descend on the ground as it collects dust and debris and possible, other objects it comes across. This cloud may come in different colors particularly in a bluish-gray hue, depending on the amount of moist and the location. As a whole, the tornado becomes more visible when there is sufficient moisture and when the wall cloud touches the ground. One can see a tornado forming on the ground as dirt and debris whirls around and eventually moves with the storm. This is when the maturity starts and from there it remains stable until it becomes severe. The more severe a tornado goes, the more it becomes wider. Large tornadoes usually appear wider when the funnel decreases towards the ground.

The tornado shows its direction once it moves with the storm and the base tilts away from the wall clouds or from the ground it descends. It is difficult though, to determine the direction of the tornado if it is not visible so it its determined only by the observation at the wall cloud and the base.

The most dangerous and last stage of the formation of a tornado is the “rope” stage, so named because it appears like a rope. Although this is the weaker stage of a tornado, it is also the most unstable and still the most dangerous. Since it is unstable, it is difficult to determine its path too.

Because tornadoes have a variety of its severity, a scale that measures them was invented and called the Fujita scale. It measures the tornado from F0, where it is the weakest and F6, the strongest in terms the damage it may inflict. Although no tornado has reached F6, the strongest damage that has occurred was F5 which has been observed in the US. As F5 intensity has measured, it was tracked at 22 kilometers long and reached up to 1.6 km in width.

Since tornadoes are known to be one of the most dangerous natural calamities, it is always necessary to take special precautions whenever it is sited in a location. Most people who live in areas where tornadoes occur on quite a regular basis have underground rooms in their homes where they can run for safety during these times.

Well, when I was growing up I was told that vicks vapor rub would take care of the breathing problems, and the stuffed noses that I got from colds. When you play outside in the rain or the snow, your most likely going to get sick and that will have you rubbing vicks vapor rub on your chest to help with breathing, and your stuffed nose. This is one of the many uses that vicks vapor rub has been known for, but there are other uses as well.

Vicks has is quite a bit of uses, such as: you can use vicks vapor rub to take care of toenail fungus. It’s funny how a product that is suppose to take car of your breathing can take care of your toenails as well. Vicks vapor rub and Listerine both cure toenail fungus due to their powerful antiseptics. Simply rub a small amount on the infected toenail once or twice a day for best results. If you have a cough, you can rub vicks on the bottom of your foot which will help your cough. Wow, you talk about some strange ways to help get better.

Vicks is also known for pain reliever, which is good for those who have achy muscles from working all day. As I continue to do some searching, i keep finding that people want to know about or have been asking about what are the uses, and each one is pretty much the same. They all want to know about putting vicks on baby’s feet, or if they are sick to put the vicks on the bottom of the sick persons foot which will help take care of the colds breathing, and stuffed nose or coughing.
